You would think that grizzled commuters would have seen it all by now, but apparently a humble rat still has the potential to make people completely lose it.
Living in a big city like New York, where the above video was filmed, should mean growing accustomed to the presence of rats.
But when these Subway users are confronted with a rat – and realisation sets in that once the doors shut they are trapped inside an underground steel can with the beast for a full two minutes – they scream themselves hoarse, clamber on to seats and invoke divine protection.
Commuter Jinais Ponnampadikkal Kader filmed the video earlier this week after the rat got on the A train at Fulton Street Station in Brooklyn heading to Manhattan.
‘Someone getting off the train was screaming “rat on the train!”, but by the time everyone realised what was happening, the doors closed and the train entered the tunnel,’ he said.
‘We were stuck with him ’til the other end.’
