In Coloma, MI, one funeral home goes above and beyond to help people adjust to life with out their loved ones — and that’s where a very special dog named Seger comes in.

To those who must visit the Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home, this chocolate lab is a true miracle worker. Seger, a certified therapy dog, was recruited by the staff to play a crucial role at the funeral home. The pup spends his days doing everything from playing with children having a hard time dealing with loss, to greeting everyone who walks through the door with a hug and a smile. The results are simply incredible.

In the video below, you’ll meet a mom who lost her 21-year-old daughter. When she and her family met Seger at the funeral home to make arrangements, the experience became less painful. Seeing this mourning mother smile while talking about Seger, despite such a tragic loss, is enough to bring tears to my eyes. If this doesn’t prove dogs have healing power, I don’t know what does.

This reminds me of Nala, a tiny black poodle who roams throughout a nursing home spreading joy to the residents. Seger has made himself a valuable employee at the Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home. He’s a true gift to those he’s touched along the way.
