Everyone has that physical trait or feature that they perceive to be a flaw, leaving them self-conscious and anxious about what others think. We live in a society of constant judgment, so it’s hard not to worry about your imperfections – no matter how big or small they may be. This in turn can affect an individual’s confidence and how one goes about their day-to-day life.
One feature that many people worry about is their smile. Are my teeth straight enough? White enough? Are my gums too noticeable?
Some of these things can be corrected over time – and with the help of medical experts. Admittedly, not everyone has the time or money for braces, gum surgery, or other oral treatments. But for those of you whose teeth aren’t as white as you’d like, there are a number of simple, natural ways to whiten your teeth at home.
The average cost of professional teeth whitening is $650, according to the Consumer Guide to Dentistry. An at-home remedy courtesy of YouTuber Holistichabits (real name Sarah Nagel) will cost you a tiny fraction of that. In fact, all you need is a strawberry and a bit of baking soda.
We can’t definitively say that this is the best way to whiten your teeth at home, but numerous viewers have shared their stories of success. All you need to do is mash up a strawberry and add a half teaspoon of baking soda, mixing it together until you have a pasty consistency. Then, use the concoction like toothpaste and let it sit for 5 or so minutes before rinsing.
As Nagel explains in the video, strawberries contain malic acid which helps whiten teeth and can also remove stains. She recommends doing this procedure about twice a month, as too much baking soda can damage the enamel on your teeth.
Nagels’ natural teeth whitening remedy is certainly more appealing than most dental bleaching products, considering you don’t always know what they’re comprised of.
