Welfare Helps Those Who Need Help, But Also Enables The Lazy

Ivan Lozano created a short documentary on people who abuse welfare called “Fraud In America.” This video shows one of the people he interviewed.  Kiara is 30 years old, has four kids and lives in Baltimore, Maryland. She has been on welfare for 12 years now. Every month, she receives $780 in food stamps, $500 to help pay for housing, health insurance through Medicaid, and WIC (Women Infants, and Children – another program that helps pay for food).  In the full documentary, she even admitted that she has sold food stamps for cash.

Recent statistics show that 12.8 million Americans are currently on welfare and 46.7 million Americans receive food stamps.  While hearing what Kiara says may be hard to accept, she is just one person on welfare and does not represent the whole.  Many people do use it to survive and get themselves back on their feet, but there are others who feel they are entitled to this money if the government will give it freely.  What do you think of the U.S. welfare system?  Share your thoughts in the comments below.
