We’ve seen many unfortunate clips that show airline employees who are caught being disrespectful to passengers and their luggage. But here’s something you may not be aware of, as it usually happens without much fanfare. If this doesn’t touch your heart, nothing will.
On Friday July 26, 2013, YouTube user MIA MYKAT was on an American Airlines flight from Dallas Fort Worth to Miami. Also on-board the plane was a fallen soldier whose brother was escorting the casket.
At first, I didn’t know what to expect as the plane lands and begins to taxi. But suddenly, out of the right corner of the screen, a water canon begins shooting water onto both sides of the plane. It was a touching salute to fallen soldier Perez. The crews held this salute as the plane departed in Dallas, and again upon arrival in Miami. As the camera was recording, you can see airline employees, baggage handlers, and police officers standing guard in a straight line, silently watching the aircraft as it pulled up to the terminal gates. The flight attendant asked that the passengers wait to de-board after the soldier’s brother, and they respectfully oblige.
What an incredible, unexpected tribute. This moment serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by soldiers and their families.
Thank you, American Airlines, for the respect you showed to this hero and his family. PleaseSHARE this with your friends on Facebook.
