Glamour Magazine found that, on average, women have 13 negative body thoughts every day – that’s nearly one every hour. And a disturbing number of women confess to having up to 100 hateful thoughts about their own shapes each day. In the video below, you’ll meet a woman who beats herself up on a daily basis because of the way she looks. She constantly weighs herself in the bathroom, feels shameful of the way she looks, and is humiliated to be around her husband.

But her husband has something he wants to say to her — that she’s beautiful, and that he loves her. The words you’re about to hear were written and performed by her husband, Khari Toure — an Oakland, CA-based author, spoken word artist, and poet. He begins by saying he found her weight loss journal and was heartbroken to read her words. “I put your journal down because I don’t like to read about you putting yourself down,” he says. “And I hope you’re not mad at me for reading your journal, so I wrote this poem to remind you that the love I have for you is eternal.”

Watch the video below to hear the amazing poem in full.

To all Khari’s fans who also struggle with their body image in the face of romance and relationships, he has this to say: “A man who truly loves you will look beyond your physical appearance, and grow to love you for who you are, not what you look like.”
