For years, Manuel and Tiffany struggled to have a baby. Imagine their devastation when they finally got pregnant and learned there was something wrong. At first, doctors thought baby Sam only had a tumor in his brain — but instead, he was born with one of the most extraordinary and unusual conditions doctors had ever seen.

After Tiffany was induced, surgeons at Colorado Springs Memorial Central Hospital immediately began to operate on Sam’s tumor. They were beyond shocked to discover a fully formed foot popping out of the tumor on the side of Sam’s head! Dr. Paul Grabb thought he’d seen everything in his practice, but he couldn’t believe his eyes. This was a once-in-a-lifetime finding in the operating room. As it turned out, Sam had a teratoma, which is a rare type of complex tumor that can form appendages and complete body parts. Dr. Grabb successfully removed the tumor, which was found to be noncancerous.
