After learning a teen she was caring for would soon be homeless, one oncology nurse went above and beyond the call of duty. Nurse Cynthia decided she would do anything she could to help, and so she turned to the kindhearted folks at the Fox5 Surprise Squad.
Cynthia met 17-year-old Basil after he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. During hospital visits, Basil’s mom started opening up to Cynthia, telling her about the family’s unfortunate luck. Despite her many efforts, Mom hasn’t been after to find a job that can help cover her son’s medical treatments. The entire family is emotionally destroyed and constantly anxious about the state of Basil’s health. In a touching act of kindness, Nurse Cynthia managed to set the family up with an extended stay room, free of charge, that was closer to the hospital — but the family will soon be kicked out with no where else to go.
But Cynthia wasn’t about to give up on the family. She knows firsthand the impact of cancer, as she herself has lost loved ones to the disease.
Keep your tissues close for the video below, as the Surprise Squad gives Basil and his family an incredible gift that not only Cynthia sees coming. Judging from her reaction, you’d never know the gift isn’t actually for her — that’s how caring and selfless she is.
