The adorable old dog you’re about to meet suffers from allergies, and her ears get filled with itchy gunk. So, her caring owner put together a quick video tutorial to teach us how he helps alleviate his dog’s itchy ears by cleaning the “funk” out — using Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV).

We love videos that help keep our canine companions happy and healthy, and this one is no exception. Apple cider vinegar is an age-old home remedy with many internal and external uses — not just for humans but for dogs, too. Among other uses, ACV can clear skin of bacterial and fungal infections, alleviate itching, and treat/prevent those pesky and damaging ear infections.

Most cases of yeast-based ear infections in dogs are a result of Candida. Candida is an overgrowth of bad gastrointestinal bacteria which results in yeast infection. The infection often reveals itself in the ears and paws.

Here’s how to treat canine ear infections using apple cider vinegar:

  • Combine equal parts of ACV and distilled water and mix the solution. A 50/50 ratio is best.
  • With a syringe or dropper, gently drop about 10 drops of the liquid into your dog’s s ear. The syringe should never be placed inside the ear canal.
  • Gently rub the ear in a circular motion, then remove your hand and let your dog shake its head.

Note: Do not attempt this type of treatment without speaking to your vet first. Every pet is different and unique! Also, do not use this treatment if you dog’s ear drums are perforated or punctured.

If your dog or cat is prone to yeast-based ear infections? If so, would you use ACV to treat his or her ear infections? Let us know, and please SHARE this helpful video with your friends on Facebook!
