it’s not the size of the girl in the fight, it’s the size of fight in the girl.

It also helps if said girl is wielding a sword and sounds like a fevered warrior in the throws of battle.

Jesse Jane McParland, a 9-year-old Irish martial arts dynamo from Armagh County, takes the antiquated perception of what it means to be a young girl and karate kicks it to oblivion. McParland’s Facebook mantra says it all:

“Not every girl dreams of being a princess.”

Rimini, Italy was the location of the 2014 Junior World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO) World Championships, and as McParland’s performance below demonstrates, she had no interest in second place. In the clip, uploaded by YouTube user Brannmanndan, we witness ferocity, precision, and passion ooze with her ever movement, and erupt with her every exhale.

McParland’s first-place sword slashing performance in the “Weapons – Hard Style” category wasn’t her only victory at the competition. She also placed first in the “Open Hand – Hard Style.” Finishing in first place, as it turns out, is something that McParland seems to have an affinity for.

According to her Facebook page, the 9-year-old who’s nicknamed “Golden Dragon” is not only a double WAKO world champion. She is a six-time World Karate & Kickboxing Commission (WKC) world champion, and the youngest WKC youngest female world champion ever. If that weren’t enough, she’s also a three-time World Organization of Martial Arts Athletes (WOMAA) world champion.

McParland recently thrust her martial arts skills into the global spotlight when she performed on the 2015 season of “Britain’s Got Talent” and reached the finals. With that exposure, her popularity has only grown. McParland is even the subject of an animated short. Not something you often see on a your typical 9-year-old’s resume.

McParland has a few women to thank who have helped pave the way for her passion. Popular female Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) martial artists like Ronda Rousey are taking the world by storm, and in turn, inspiring a younger generation of females to embrace the concept that being strong and powerful is not only limited to males. While McParland might be setting her sites on the likes of Rousey, it appears that UFC Europe has taken notice of young McParland.

While it is clear McParland does not have aspirations of being a princess, she is well on her way to one day rule the martial arts realm.
