I’ve never really believed in ghosts, but I’ve always liked the idea of angels, especially guardian angels. While it’s hard to know what is and what isn’t real, I find it comforting to think that somebody might belooking out for us down here.

What’s much less comforting is the idea of fallen angels. The three Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) all share the idea that angels are emissaries or messengers of God. A fallen angel, conversely, is a rebellious angel that has been cast out of heaven.

There is a huge amount of mythology around the entire concept of ‘fallen angels.’ The most famous carrier of the label is, of course, Lucifer, sometimes understood to be Satan.

With that in mind, I had a really difficult time watching the following video, in which some kind of figure appears on CCTV footage captured in Indonesia. The figure is glowing, indistinct, and appears winged, but is only on the screen for a split-second before disappearing.

While I’m hardly an expert, the fact that the figure seems to fall from the sky, and then zoom off again certainly looks a bit like the ‘fallen angel’ mythology. The most disconcerting part is probably the sheer size of the form.

When security guards rush down to investigate the glowing figure, long after it has disappeared, you get a dramatic sense of how small the humans are in comparison. It is truly chilling, and, as far as I can tell, inexplicable.
